Man Pleads Guilty for Possessing Firearm

As a convicted felon, 27-year-old Corey Sykes was prohibited from having a firearm. But in April, Sykes gave 23-year-old Monica Box of Rockford $200 to buy a pistol for him from a firearms dealer in Cherry Valley.

Following the mandatory 72-hour waiting period imposed after buying a firearm, Box returned to the store as Sykes waited in the car to pick up the pistol.

Police stopped the car shortly after it left the parking lot. The driver, Latoya Horton, 22, was also charged with aiding and abetting Sykes.
