Chicago High Rise Fire

A high-rise fire in Chicago has left at least 25 injured, including a dozen firefighters.

Eight firefighters and five others were hospitalized in serious condition. The rest were treated for smoke inhalation. The fire happened in the 43-story LaSalle Bank building.

A fire department spokesman says there are no reports of anyone trapped, but the stairwells and floors are still being searched.

The fire was reported on the 29th floor at about 6:30 p.m. One witness says the smoke was "horribly thick" and the halls were "completely dark."

More than one-third of the city's fire equipment was dispatched.
