Just after noon Monday, the Illinois State Police started their investigation after discovering a body. The investigation began after the Illinois Department of Transportation had the right westbound lane blocked off along Bypass 20.
Crews were doing some routine maintenance which is when they discovered a body.
A clothed female body was located about a mile and a half east of the Montague exit on Bypass 20.
Illinois State Police and the Winnebago County Coroner's Office are working together to investigate. There are still many of unanswered questions.
As of Monday night, the Winnebago County Coroner’s office was working to make a positive identification and x-ray the body. An autopsy is set for Tuesday.
