The Chicago Sun Times Friday reported the Department of Veterans Affairs Office in Chicago is one of the stingiest in the country.
An analysis of federal records shows disabled Illinois vets received an average of $6,802 in 2003. That places them 50th out of 52 states and territories.
In Illinois, claims are decided by 31 raters in the VA's Chicago Office and are based on medical, military and personnel records.
The Chicago VA Director says the office does not intentionally slight veterans.
