The decision is fast approaching to see if the Rockford School District 205 referendum will pass.
On Sunday, R.E.A.C.H. or Rockford Educating All Children started their campaign for a “no” vote this November. The committee wants to “raise achievement, not taxes.”
The group says that the tax increase is not necessary since the district will receive about $4.2 million whether the tax referendum passes or fails. R.E.A.C.H. says the district needs to take the created deficit into their own hands and figure out what can be eliminated.
R.E.A.C.H. and the Rockford school district's referendum committee will have a chance to discuss the referendum in person at a scheduled debate. The debate is Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 at 7 p.m. The location is the IBEW Building on Mill Road.
