Thompson had 29 top-10 hits in his career. His album "The Wild Side of Life" hit number one in 1952. Some of his most famous songs are "Humpty Dumpty Heart" and "A Six Pack to Go."

The president of his record company says Thompson had "aggressive lung cancer." He says Thompson was surrounded by his friends and family when he died.

    I had the good fortune of seeing Hank Thompson with the Country Legends tour at Crystal Grand Theatre in Wisconsin Dells a couple years ago. I like to see the older country stars before it is too late.
