Dog Fighting Task Force

The society's Executive Director, Chris Konetski, says the society is tired of seeing the animals come in "torn limb from limb," and it's concerned about the over-breeding of them.

She says about a third of the dogs at the shelter are pit bull, American bull dog or some mix of the breeds. Those are animals frequently used in dog fighting. She also says some of the dogs come in with their ears clipped off, have aggressive temperaments and show scars on them. Those are also signs of being used as fighters.

The proposed task force will work with local law enforcement to find solutions to the problem. Three Rock County Humane Society board members plan to be on the task force. Some other shelter employees, volunteers and other animal groups also plan to be involved.
