Just getting to be a member of the audience is often a gift in itself, but for the 276 people who were in Oprah's studio on September 13, 2004, the gift she gave is going to be hard to top.
On her the start of her new season Oprah told the audience, “You get a car. You get a car and you get a car.”
Susan got a car, and Sarah got a car, and Nicole got a car. Friday, was the first time two of the three women were able to get behind the wheel of their new 2005 Pontiac G6.
Susan Flemming says, "I took the day off of work to come and pick up my new car. It's a great day; it's something to be thankful for as this is the day after Thanksgiving."
The fully loaded car is worth about $28,000 and comes complete with an automatic start and the newest sun roof option. The only tough decision for the women was the color and if they wanted a six CD disc changer or a satellite radio.
Nicole Clark says, "It's really unbelievable. I just wanted to go to an Oprah show that was good enough for me, but to come away winning a car."
After getting two tickets, Nicole says she was having a hard time finding someone to take the other ticket. Her co-worker Susan was happy to help and now those that said no are regretting their decision.
Susan tells 23 News, "I think Oprah is a cool lady. She was the perfect person to facilitate this for GM."
So just where will the open road take Susan? Is she going to put the pedal to the metal and cruise the mall on the busiest shopping day of the year? Not quite.
Susan says, “I’m going to stay away from crowds. I want them all to stay away from my new car. I'll be the person to park in the back of the lot and maybe take up 2 parking spots."
And for those looking for that holiday gift for these new car owners, maybe a few car washes would be the perfect stocking stuffer. That's a gift Oprah didn't include.
Nicole is going to pick up her new car in January since she wanted to defer the tax. The women have to pay about $8,000 in taxes, which is still a small price to pay for a brand new car.
