There were two armed robberies within two hours of each other on 11th Street in Rockford.

First, four black men burst into a discount cigarettes store just before 9 p.m. One of the men hit the store clerk in the back of head with a blunt object, believed to be the butt of a handgun.

He then forced the clerk to the floor and pointed a gun at her. The suspects took cash and took off on foot into an alley. The store clerk was not seriously hurt. Then, another armed robbery a couple hours later and a couple blocks down 11th Street.

Rockford police say a man walked into the Road Ranger in the 3300 block of 11th Street. The man pulled a knife on the clerk and took money out of the cash register.

He is described as a white man, 5’10”, about 150 pounds. Police say there have been a couple other robberies at knifepoint by a man with a similar description in recent days.
