Area health providers are going over who will get the limited supply of shots, and advise healthy residents to forgo the shot and ride out this flu season a week after it was found 46 million flu vaccines from Britain were contaminated. The result is a depleted supply across America, and the Rockford area.
Tuesday, the Winnebago County Health Department announced there will be no public clinics at places like the Crusader Clinic this year. Rockford's three major health providers plan on giving patient to patient physicians the shots. Then, based on what is left, they will provide the shot to high-risk patients, mainly those aged two to 64 that are chronically ill, and residents of nursing homes.
Healthy residents are advised not to get the shot.
