Illinois farmers are reaping a corn harvest like never before.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that Illinois will produce nearly 2.1 billion bushels of corn this year. That’s a 15-percent increase from last year’s record crop of 1.8 billion.

Illinois is also expected to remain the nation's leading soybean producing state for the second straight year in a row.

Illinois farmers should harvest 482,650,000 bushels of soybeans this fall; that’s 27-percent more than last year.
