They serve our communities with honor and dignity; this Saturday night stateline fire departments came together to honor those helmeted officers that died while putting out the flames.
Hundreds of stateline firefighters protect our property and our lives, and in one night their service and sacrifices came to the forefront.
The memorial service started with a processional down Highway 75 in downtown Rockton. There, Beloit and Rockton Fire Departments put their ladders together to drape the American flag. After the processional, area fire and rescue staff held a special service at the Old Stone Church.
In the last year, five fire and rescue workers in the Midwest died in the line of duty. Area fire leaders say Saturday night's event shows the area who the real heroes are.
This event comes as part of the National Fire Prevention Week and the event also honored retired firefighters that passed away in the last year.
