Gov. Rod Blagojevich announced Friday that the $198,400 grant will be used to construct a 1.4-mile extension of the Hononegah and Stone Bridge Trails.
The Dorr Road Corridor will eventually allow access from the existing trail system in Winnebago County to planned trails in Beloit, Wisconsin.
The funding will also help make the trails safer and more functionable in Winnebago County.
The grant is from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. It is part of a comprehensive plan to promote economic growth and create jobs for the region.
