Shawn Clark, a member of the Army for nine years, has been stationed in Iraq for the past nine months.
She decided to spend part of her 15-day leave with her family in Rockford this week. She surprised the Grand Victorian residents with a plaque and American flag that was flown in Iraq to say thank you for their support.
With the help of Clark's brother who works at the Center, the Center was able to collect money from the residents to help purchase items the soldier needed.
Clark says when she received the 30-pound box in April it brought tears of joy to her eyes.
"I think it was the greatest thing I've ever received in the mail," said Clark.
Clark is leaving to return back to Iraq on Sunday the 10th.
