KIlling Wife With Plate Trial Getting Underway in Wisconsin

Patrick Zurkowski was arrested by Spencer police in March of 2006 after he called a funeral home to report his wife's sudden death.

Zurkowski then claimed his wife, June, hit him first and he fought back in self defense.

He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and was evaluated several times by psychologists. He spent about three months at the Mendota Mental Health Institute.

A Marathon County judge then ruled he was competent to stand trial.

Zurkowski faces life in prison if convicted on a charge of first-degree intentional homicide.
