When we throw away our trash we don't often think about what happens to it but what if that trash could be used to power our homes, that's exactly what's happening at the Winnebago landfill.
Instead of flaring off the gas created from our waste, it'll be sucked into generators to produce energy. So much energy that 5,000 homes in Rockford could be powered by it every year.
This local energy source also has the potential of saving nearly 590,000 barrels of oil a year.
