Congressman Elijah Cummings invited Obama to Maryland to help him raise cash for his campaign against Maryland native Alan Keyes. Cummings is chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, and he says he wants Obama to become a major player in the Democratic Party.
Obama told reporters he wants to help address the unmet needs of urban areas such as Baltimore and Chicago.
U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski of Maryland and Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley also were on hand to welcome Obama.
