Two days ago we told you about how a Kingston family was holding out hope that their missing son and soldier would return home safely. 23 News has learned that soldier Michael Torok was found dead.

Twenty-three-year-old soldier Michael Torok was found dead in a rural area east of Monroe Center in Ogle County. Torok had just returned from service in Afghanistan just weeks ago.

The Dekalb County Sheriff's Department says they were able to find Torok after a re-examination of cell phone records gave deputies a new area to search.

He was last seen at a Menard's in Cherry Valley on September 5, 2004. Michael's mother says he was supposed to then visit a friend that day but never showed.

Law enforcement began a formal search on September 7, 2004 to try to track down Michael. Authorities had hoped to find his black Chevy Silverado that he was last seen driving.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
