Leaders Mum on Airline Talks One Day Before Expected Vote

The day before Greater Rockford Airport leaders are expected to vote to add one or more airlines, airport leaders are tight-lipped about how the talks are progressing.

Airport director Bob O'Brien says airport, airline and city leaders will be silent for the next three days in hopes of getting the job done.

Last week we reported that the Rockford Airport had an offer from Northwest Airlines to add two daily flights to Detroit, this along with talks to add Frontier Airline service to Denver.

O'Brien wouldn't say if a deal with Northwest or Frontier is any closer. However, Rockford travel agents say they've heard from several travelers excited about the possibilities.

The six member Rockford airport board will likely make their vote on whether to add new airline service at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
