Arrest Made in Killing of Security Guard at State Capitol

Deputy Police Chief James Burton says Derek W. Potts was spotted going door-to-door in a Springfield neighborhood. Residents called authorities, and Potts was arrested without incident Tuesday morning.

Col. Larry Schmidt of the Secretary of State's Police Force says Potts drove up to the Capitol's main entrance Monday, walked in and shot the 51-year-old guard once in the chest. The shooter then left, stowing his weapon in his trunk before driving off.

The guard, William Wozniak of Petersburg, died Monday at a hospital.
