The poll found that 53 percent of respondents rated the governor as "good" or "excellent." It was commissioned by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and The Pantagraph in Bloomington.
The results are in line with a Chicago Tribune poll last month that reported a 51 percent positive approval rating for Blagojevich.
A Tribune poll conducted in May, when the governor was battling the Legislature over the budget, pegged Blagojevich's approval rating at 40 percent.
A political scientist at the University of Illinois at Springfield, Kent Redfield says that while Blagojevich's numbers have improved, they still could be a problem if he seeks re-election in 2006.
