Decision Expected Soon on Future of Rockford's "MILL"

A center in Rockford that serves abused and neglected children faces an uncertain future.

The facility, called the MILL, lost its chief executive earlier this month and state officials have said they will reduce the number of state wards who are sent to the residential treatment center.

The 26-year-old organization recently has been plagued with problems. According to documents obtained by the Rockford Register Star, Cook County social workers have said the facility is dangerous and unsanitary.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is expected to decide next month whether to help the facility rehabilitate itself or completely stop sending wards there.
