CHICAGO (AP) -- Elmhurst police are investigating the apparent suicide of the 24-year-old son of former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan.
Police say they found Patrick Ryan dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after responding to his family's home after being called there by a relative.
His father, Jim Ryan, wasn't home at the time.
Police say the relative reported seeing Patrick Ryan with a handgun and said he was alone in the house.
Crisis negotiators tried to make contact inside the home, and police say Patrick Ryan answered the phone one time.
After no further contact, police went inside the house and found him dead.
