A report being released to Congress shows Medicare is being charged above market prices for supplies.
It shows Medicare pays 56-percent more for medical supplies than the veterans affairs department.
In fact, if they paid VA prices, Medicare could save almost $1 billion every year.
In addition to the obvious cost to taxpayers, since most seniors have to cover 20-percent of the Medicare costs, they're also directly impacted by the higher prices.
The Medicare study looked at 16 common medical items that Medicare bought in 2000.
