ILLINOIS (WIFR) -- A new survey has found a sudden rise in West Nile Virus in the Chicago area. Mosquito samples are detecting the illness. The Illinois Natural History Survey says that the findings are part of ongoing research. The virus has been detected in 25 Illinois counties. The Winnebago County Health Department recently announced a crow in Loves Park tested positive for the virus.
A few tips to help us prevent the virus - experts say to avoid outdoor activities in the early morning and at dusk. And drain standing water in our yard at least once a week - things like pet bowls and buckets.
