ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- It was a wet start for music fans for the kick off night of On the Waterfront. Concert-goers braved the storm to hear some songs by Thursday night's featured act, Dierks Bentley.

Soggy sounds of woos and cheers filled Davis Park, as anxious fans waited to see the country star.

The On the Waterfront staff says the status of the economy has played a part in its operation, but they remain confident music lovers alike will show up for the event.

"We've done a lot ot try to adjust to the economy, we dropped the price from $18 last year to $15, we also changed the pass so it's much more flexible," said Nina Jacobson, OTW Sales and Marketing Manager.

On the Waterfront wraps up this Sunday with performances by Steel Magnolias and Billy Idol.

You can take Waterfront and shove it. I live all the way across town (way way on SE side of town) and I can hear the freaking music at Waterfront this evening 09/03/10 word-for-freaking word because it is so loud. Then you people wonder why there's an increase in people going deaf due to loud music. Take OTW out of here. We don't want it anymore. Nothing but a bunch of drunken losers down there anyway that cause problems. I'm glad the City is no longer funding this zoo parade. Hopefully OTW dies! Enjoy it now folks because hopefully next year you all won't have a OTW.

Ahh let the rain wash it away it isn't worth the price of admission anyway. That event is and has been falling apart for many years and the crime element and disrespectful little rats called kids that show up down there every year don't make it worth going to. Rockbottom is falling apart, I think what the police should do is use this event to get the wanted and known criminal element off the street and set closed circuit cameras and watch for criminals coming in and arrest them before they get to enjoy the day (just make sure they pay first, might as well get their money since they probably don't pay taxes anyway). It is simple because at Waterfront you know they're going to show up I mean look around if you're down there this weekend you can probably point out the crooks as they walk by you, if I was a bounty hunter I would use that event every year to get my criminals.

It is not the economy as much as it is the festival itself going to crap. You are down to 3 1/2 stages with alot of talent that you can go to local establishments to see. Overall very disappointing lineup. I can only go on Sunday and trying to see who would entertain me, and I see possibly 3 acts and they are all scheduled for the same time, gee thanks, great scheduling, why would you take the three biggest acts and then pit them against each other????
