ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- One person is dead and another is in the hospital this morning after a fatal accident last night on Rockford's south east-side .

Christopher Krenzer, 20, of Garden Prairie, IL was killed in the accident. His vehicle was hit by a car that ran the red light.

The driver and only occupant of the second vehicle has been charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (involving a death). He is identified as 20-year-old Justin Bartlett of Rockford.

It happened at the intersection of Perryville Road and Newburg Road just before 1 a.m. Thursday morning.

Rockford police say Bartlett's car was heading East on Newburg, ran a red light, and hit Krenzer's car.

Bartlett was taken to Winnebago County Jail after he was taken to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center with minor injuries, police say.

My heart goes out to the Krenzer family..R.I.P. Chris my heart also goes out to the Bartlett family. I think it is a disgrace that this young man had to die due to alcohol..and I also think that whoever Justin was with should feel real bad that they let there "friend" drive drunk..Alcohol obviously alters the mind and makes people think they are capable of doing things in a correct manner as a sober mind would..and I also blame the wonderful "court system" if this was his 2nd or 3rd dui why didn't they make him attend some sort of treatment or put a breathalyzer in his car? all I know is this is just a sad situation for both families and some of you people on here commenting have driven drunk before and have done a couple of hit and runs but were lucky enough not to do some serious damage..Including I so why can't everybody just keep there hurtful comments to themselves? I'm sure justin feels real bad who wouldn't? but calling names and making threats is not going to bring Chris back

You always hear stories about drunk drivers but you never expect it to affect your life directly. It's so terrible for both familes. Chris was an awesome person and its so sad to think he is no longer with us. I'll always remember him for taking me on my first motorcycle ride. It kills me that I hadn't talked to him in months and had the chance to say goodbye.... RIP Chris Krenzer and I hope you know how many people love and care about you.
