Cubs Rally

CHICAGO (AP) -- Authorities in Chicago plan a noontime rally in downtown Daley Center Plaza today to celebrate the National League Central champion Chicago Cubs.

The free rally will kick off playoff activities in Chicago.

Governor Rod Blagojevich (bluh-GOY'-uh-vitch) and Mayor Richard M. Daley have been invited to attend, and Wayne Messmer, the voice of Wrigley Field, is scheduled to serve as emcee.

The Cubs' first playoff series begins Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix.
