A portion of Rockford rebounding from tough times could soon get quite an economic and residential facelift.
Monday, Rockford's city council will vote on nearly $2 million in projects to revitalize Rockford's mid-town district on Seventh Street. The recommendations call for adding new businesses and turning vacant buildings into loft apartments.
The city hopes the projects will create jobs and generate new tax revenues. Mid-Town business owners say if approved the plans would add to the progress made in the district in the last decade.
One of the Mid-Town district proposals also includes the construction of a golf center.
