This is the second outbreak of violence in a Rockford Public school this month.
There are now 15 students in custody, school leaders say the first fight broke out in the cafeteria during the second lunch hour. Things got worse from there when a student pulled the fire alarm sending 1,800 students spilling out of the building.
School District and East Officials say one other fight then broke out in front of the school. Kids we spoke to say it looked like more then one fight, some described it as a near riot.
An investigation is underway and police are examining school security tapes to see if the incidents are related. At 1:50 kids were sent back into class.
School leaders say they are working to prevent similar incidents in the future.
