1 Killed, 3 Teens Injured in Sunday Morning Crash

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A Rockford woman is dead and three teenagers are injured after the car they were in slammed into a utility pole early Sunday morning.

The Rockford Police Department was called around 2:00am Sunday to the 1300 block of Seminary Street for a serious crash with multiple victims. Officers found a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina that had struck a utility pole as well as a vacant building at Seminary Street and Catherine Street. The driver, a 21-year-old Rockford woman, died at the scene. An 18-year-old passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Two other passengers, an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old, also went to the local hospital for minor injuries.

The Winnebago County Coroner’s office identified the driver as Suaveya Williams of Rockford. An autopsy is pending.

The damage to the utility pole caused a significant power outage in the area and neighbors should expect to be without power for several hours on Sunday. The roadway on Seminary Street between Gregory Street and Buckbee Street remains closed while Com-Ed crews work to restore power.
