STATELINE (WIFR) -- A new effort to stock automatic external defibrillators, or AED’s at area stores has saved three lives in just the last six months.
With the help of these machines, Blain's Farm and Fleet employees have become heroes. All 35 locations first became equipped with an AED machine in 2007. They weren't used for an emergency until this past year. Nicholas Shores had to use one in November to help resuscitate a woman in his Janesville store.
"Being in management you expect any thing any day. So you just go about it and you go about it and you got to do it. I'm very thankful that I had the team here with me. It was a team effort, so everyone pitched in and we were able to do what we had to do,” Shores said.
More than 160,000 Americans experience out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrests each year. Heart disease is the number one killer in the country.
