ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Construction of a new recycling center wraps up this week. Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful opens its new recycling center this Saturday on Hydraulic Road in Rockford.
The organization has run a similar drop off area in Roscoe for the last 23 years and wanted more options for the people of the Stateline. The center will accept items like electronics, bagged clothing, and cardboard.
"What am I supposed to do? I don't want it to sit on the curb because I don't want it going into the landfill, but I need alternatives for me to actually manage my own waste so I know there are other people that are just like me. They want to do the right thing so by making it easy and convenient, hopefully we're going to inspire them to participate,” said Lori Gummow with Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful.
The recycling center will be open every Saturday from 9 to noon.
