UNDATED (CBS) -- For many people with chronic diseases, daily painful injections are the only way to get medication. Researchers in Boston have come up with a new pain free way to deliver drugs.

Scientists at MIT say this tiny chip could do away with painful injections. It’s is controlled wirelessly and can release drugs into the body at any time. Scientists tested the new technology on eight women with osteoporosis. For one month the device delivered a medication. Results showed the implant administered the drug just as effectively as traditional injections. They hope the technology will be ready for wide use in five years.
