Growing demand to help women fight drug abuse has one local transitional home expanding it's doors at a new location.

23 news reporter Tina Stein is live on School street where Reformer's Unanimous is rehabing an old nursing home to make it their own.

This women's home will be very different from it's current downtown location. It could house about double the residents and even children. And since it's much more secluded here off of school street, sponsers think this will keep more residents away from temptation.

"I would probably be dead, just the way my life was going and things i was going through it just wasn't leading anywhere. This program's given me another chance at life," said Adam Gray.

With hopes to conquer drug and alcohol abuse, Gray wants his recovery to bring a better home for women fighting a similar battle. He's helping rehab this old nursing home which will be the new site of reformer's unanimous for women.

"Right now our current women's home will only allow up to 35 women a lot of time we have to turn down current applicants," says Tony Richardson, development director.

This transitional home...nicknamed Miracle Mansion will house up to 65 women, and their children, which isn't allowed at the current downtown location. It's a six-to-eight month program that offers counseling...Bible study...and job opportunities.

"Sex offenders are not allowed at the women's home, but with resident's backgrounds some neighbors say they're concerned about its proximity to schools and several home daycares."

"I'm all for it cause everyone needs a place and people they can lean on and go to for help it's just the location for the place may not be the best location," said Kimberly lyon, daycare owner.

Kimberly lyon owns a home daycare down the street from Reformer's Unanimous. The organization reports 80-percent of their clients remain drug-free. A statistic good enough for neighbor l.V. Woodard.

"I know it was just sitting there nobody using it and i think it's a good idea to put it to use," Woodard said.
