Fireworks can be a blast, but also dangerous. Last year about 9,000 people were injured nationwide because of them and there are at least seven deaths a year that result from firework accidents. But it's not commercial firework displays the consumer product safety commission is worried about, it's those set off in our backyards.
Since about half of all injured each year are under 15 experts warn parents:
Only use legal fireworks
Read all labels
Never let children light them
Make sure everyone's out of the way when you do fire one off
Light one at a time
Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby just in case.
This list may seem simple but way to many of us are careless, and we don't want any celebrations turning into tragedies this year.
