23 News Weekend Anchor Caroline Brady has more on this inspiring story of separating triplets afflicted with a rare and threatening problem while they were still in the womb.
Kalie and Josh Kuhl's three sons made history long before they entered the world not only are they identical triplets which is quite uncommon, they were suffering from a rare disorder called twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome.
Two of the triplets were sharing blood vessels, the third fetus was being overloaded with blood and amniotic fluid to the point of heart failure. At the same time, the others were undernourished and anemic.
On February 22, Kalie underwent a risky surgical procedure called Endoscopic Laser Treatment. This surgical solution has never been successful before in saving all three kids but it worked. The triplets made it 32 weeks before Kalie's body forced her to give birth on the 20th. All three checked in at what doctors say is a healthy weight for triplets.
Brodin, Gavin and Trevin will likely spend the next six weeks in the hospital, making history every day they are alive.
The Kuhl's will need help paying off extensive medical bills, if you'd like to help the family here's that information:
