The Golden Apple banquet is tomorrow and one of the recipients this year started off being a social worker dealing with troubled kids. He decided to become a teacher to be able to make more of a difference in kids lives.
2nd grade teacher Richard Toppe greets his students at Brookview Elementary in Rockford with a handshake and a personal hello every day. Each child also has a job in the classroom and must report on it in class.
Toppe has been teaching for 29 years and is very proud to have influenced his daughter who recently began teaching in West Virginia. To get a ticket for tomorrow's event go to features then click on the Golden Apple page.
