ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The incoming chilly weather is a good reminder flu season is here.

Many 23 News staffers got their flu shot in the studio today. The Winnebago and Boone county health departments say they've given out fewer flu shots than normal this year--that could be because there's more ways to get a shot.

Instead of having to make a doctor's appointment or go to the health department you can get a flu shot at pharmacies, walk-in clinics, and even at work.

Ginny Penzi from the Winn. Co. Health Dept. said, "It means usually we get mostly the seniors which are the high risk population anyway. So we're happy with that. A lot of people do go to other places, and that's fine. It's more convenient for their particular lifestyles."

The CDC recommends everyone over six months of age get a flu shot.
