Rockford Police Announce Road Closures and Traffic Limitations for 4th of July Fireworks Traffic

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Rockford Police Department is encouraging those attending the 4th of July
Fireworks in downtown Rockford on Thursday to check their route to and from the area. Due to
construction to area streets this year the amount of available arterial streets are limited. Please
see the attached map for street closures but pay special attention to the following:

  • South Main Street will be limited to one lane traffic for north/south traffic from Montague Street south.
  • West State Street is closed between Kilburn Avenue and Johnston Avenue.
  • Auburn Street and N. Main Street is one lane each direction and no turns are allowed.

The State Street and Chestnut Street Bridges will remain closed until all pedestrian traffic is
cleared after the fireworks. This generally takes twenty minutes after the fireworks conclude.

Traffic is not allowed to exit east bound from N. Second Street onto Spring Creek Road after the
fireworks due the large amount of east bound traffic on Spring Creek Road.

Parking on the top floor of the Concourse parking deck is not allowed.

History has shown that it takes 45 minutes to one hour to get all of the traffic out of the
downtown area following the fireworks. This may be extended this year due to construction.

Please be patient and remember that safety is the number one concern during this event
