FREEPORT (WIFR) -- The Freeport Art Museum invites you to celebrate young artists by visiting the Aspiring Artists Student Exhibition, opening Saturday February 10 through Saturday March 24, 2012.
Hundreds of students have work included in the exhibition. Come and witness spectacular examples of 2-D and 3-D student art work from Durand High School, Pearl City Schools, West Carroll High School, Freeport High School, Carl Sandburg Middle School and Freeport Middle School. In this exhibition students use their own creative voice to showcase some of their most exciting work from the current school year.
This year, students were encouraged to consider Renewable Energy themes. In partnership with Highland Community College’s Wind Turbine program, the theme challenges young artists to think outside the box and create artwork that depicts renewable energy in different mediums.
Awards are given to First, Second, and Third places as well as Honorable Mention. In the K-4th grade category, we are pleased to announce Zander Endress from Pearl City in First Place, Dean Polizzi from Pearly City in Second Place, Laine Rosenstiel from Pearl City in Third Place, and Emily Grinnell and Jacob Lieb won Honorable Mentions. In the category of 5th through 8th grade, we are pleased to recognize Ladell and Rocky from Freeport Middle School in First Place, Aubrey Baptiste from Carl Sandburg Middle School for Second Place, Ty Bolden from Freeport Middle School in Third Place, and Will DeHahn from Pearl City as Honorable Mention. In the High School category, Shadeed Monroe from Freeport High School took First Place, Tony Polizzi from Durand High School took Second Place, Kortni Wong from Freeport High School took Third Place with Honorable Mentions for Jasmin Nava and Kenzie Thomas.
“This is an exhibit I look forward to each year. The student talent never ceases to amaze me,” says Jennifer Kirker Priest, FAM Director. This year the Museum is proud to have the generous sponsorship of FHN as the exhibition sponsor and Dick Blick Art Supplies as awards sponsor.
