And it appears the 28-year-old is happy again.

The actress and singer has gushed over her role as a new mother. She's started going out again. And she's poured herself into her work, from a gospel-tinged rendition of the national anthem at the Super Bowl months after the killings to a "VH1 Divas" concert last month.

Ian Drew is a senior music editor at Us Weekly magazine. He says Hudson's way of grieving has been channeling her energy into work and celebrating what she has.

On Oct. 24 of last year, the bodies of her mother and brother were found in the family's Chicago home. Her 7-year-old nephew was found days later in a sport utility vehicle.
