Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has been airlifted to a hospital after falling from a stage during a concert in western South Dakota.

The 61-year-old Tyler fell while entertaining the crowd by dancing around after the sound system failed during the song "Love In an Elevator."

A spokesman for the Buffalo Chip Campground, which hosted the outdoor concert, says Tyler was on the stage's catwalk when he fell backward onto a couple of fans. Security rushed to help him and the crowd cheered when Tyler got back up.

Tyler suffered minor head and neck injuries and a shoulder injury, but it wasn't immediately clear how serious that was.

The concert was halted about halfway through. Fans expressed disappointment but hoped Tyler was OK.

Aerosmith was in South Dakota to perform at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
