Chris Brown is due back in a Los Angeles courtroom to be formally sentenced for assaulting Rihanna.

The 20-year-old R&B singer pleaded guilty in June to felony assault and is expected to receive five years of probation during a sentencing hearing Tuesday afternoon. Under terms of a plea deal, Brown will also be required to perform six months of community labor. A judge has made clear she wants those tasks to be physical -- involving something akin to graffiti removal or roadside cleanup.

An attorney for Rihanna says the 21-year-old singer will not be in court.

Brown issued a videotaped apology on his Web site last month, saying he was ashamed of his conduct during a Feb. 8 attack on his then-girlfriend.
