LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A bodyguard who was one of the last people to see Anna Nicole Smith alive is waiting to testify in the drug conspiracy trial of two doctors and Smith's lawyer-boyfriend.

Maurice Brighthaupt was on the prosecution witness list for Thursday. He tried to revive the Playboy model and reality TV star who died in 2007. He has given varying accounts of what he saw.

His testimony comes after a day of spirited opening statements by a prosecutor and three defense attorneys who disputed whether the defendants conspired to feed prescription drugs to an addict or whether they were driven by affection for Smith to help her find relief for chronic pain.

They have pleaded not guilty to charges of over prescribing drugs. They are not charged with causing her death.
