ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Some Stateline republican candidates argue a recent survey sent out by the Winnebago republicans is meant to keep new blood out of the race.

These four republicans running for county board say they won't fill it out because it asks too personal of questions including how much money they have for their campaign and if they've ever supported a democratic candidate.

The candidates tell us they've already been asked to drop out of the race by members of their own party... and say the survey is a guise to make sure they don't get further than the primary.

9th District Candidate David Kelley said, "I think this whole idea of a screening process that somehow the county republican party executive board is going to spoon feed primary voters a list of candidates that are endorsed. I think it's a slap in the face of the primary voter."

We spoke with the chairman of Winnebago County's Republican Party, Jim Thompson, he tells us the survey is meant to help voters make a more informed decision and the official county party has not asked anyone to leave the race.
