CHICAGO (AP) -- Barack Obama fared well today among Illinois voters who are worried about the direction of the country, health care and the economy and even with those who believe taxes will go up.
That's according to exit polls conducted for The Associated Press and TV networks.
Despite the fact that Obama has said he'd raise taxes on America's wealthiest citizens, he ran almost even with Arizona Sen. John McCain among people earning more than $100,000 a year.
Exit polls suggest about half of the Illinois electorate believes taxes will go up regardless of who wins, and Obama won a majority of those votes.
At least seven in 10 voters say they're worried about getting proper health care, the direction of the economy, about another terrorist attack in the U.S., and disapprove of the job Congress is doing.
And Obama bested McCain in all those categories.
(The exit poll of 1,242 Illinois voters was conducted for AP by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International in a random sample of 25 precincts statewide. Results were subject to sampling error of 4 percentage points, higher for subgroups.)
