Statement of Illinois Chamber of Commerce Chairman Calvin Butler on
Chamber President Whitley’s Exploratory Process to Consider
Candidacy for Governor

“The officers and directors of the Illinois Chamber Board of Directors are supportive of President Doug Whitley’s announcement at yesterday’s board meeting that he plans to launch an
exploratory process as a first step toward a possible run as a Republican in the Illinois gubernatorial race in the 2010 election.

“While Doug begins his exploration, the officers will be reviewing implications this decision may have on the organization to ensure we are meeting our obligations to the entire Chamber membership. Doug will still be working hard for Illinois’ businesses as president and CEO of the
Chamber during this initial process. We will announce any further developments as they arise.”
