ROCKFORD (GD) -- The storefront of Rockford retailer, Gruno’s Diamonds, was accidentally struck by a half-ton pickup truck at approximately 3:30 p.m. on January 26th, 2012 when the driver’s foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas pedal.
The vehicle traveled over the sidewalk and collided with the building. Gruno’s employees and patrons alike were frightened by the sound – which some likened to a bomb exploding. No one was injured in the crash. However, the impact shattered a plate glass window and broke through the brick wall. Shelves and cases within the store were destroyed and merchandise estimated at over $100,000 was damaged. Structural damage to the building is estimated at over $75,000.
Following the crash, the store was secured and closed immediately for the remainder of the business day. The store re-opened for business at their usual time the next morning. A temporary structure now covers the opening created by the crash. Remodeling efforts are expected to be complete by mid April.
“The most important thing is that no one was hurt,” said Brent Meade, owner of Gruno’s Diamonds. “Our staff is to be commended on their professionalism and quick thinking during the moments after the accident. But, now it’s time to move forward - and rather than focus on the inconvenience this has caused, we’re going to create an opportunity. Instead of turning damaged merchandise over to the insurance company, we’re offering it to the public at up to 50% off. Many items just need a little buffing or slight repair – so why not give customers a chance to purchase it? We’re calling it our “Maximum Impact” Sales Event. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for people to own extraordinary items for pennies on the dollar. Because of the high demand this will create, we’re limiting the sale dates to February 23rd, 24th and 25th. Our staff literally went through the rubble of the accident to secure these items and now we’re gearing up for three tremendous days.”

Hmm...I don't believe it was an accident. Someone should check on the activities of the other major jewelry retailers in Rockford, this smells of conspiracy.
Well, we know of the dates....how about the store-event's hours and location..?
