WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) -- Financial help could soon be on the way for Winnebago County Residents and high school students looking to continue their education.
Winnebago County Board Member Frank Gambino wants to use money raised from landfill host fees to go towards an endowment fund for education and career training.
A host fee is money collected from outside communities that dump trash in our landfill. Winnebago County receives about $3 million a year from those fees. Gambino says using that money to help fund higher education in the long run will help our economy .
"That money is going to trickily down through, as i said. In the way of salaries being paid. For a number of people job security, maybe even creating more jobs. Purchase of goods and services. When people are earning money then they are going to go out and buy retail, cars, possibly houses. all of that trickles down to our benefit," Gambino said.
Gambino would like to see the fund start out at about $8 million and one day grow up to $20 million with the help of local investments.

Hey, Chuck--maybe before you make UNeducated statements like that, you should volunteer to substitute teach in a school for one week!! Oh, you DO have to have a college education to do this though, sorry!! You flaunt your ignorance like you are proud of it. Our teachers are fighting an uphill battle trying to TEACH children who come from parents like YOU.
just another way to fund over paid and under worked teachers ..that money will never see it's way to the students or local community...more theft by teachers unions
